Synopsis:
She was a porn star and then she wasn't. She was a dancer and then she wasn't. She was celibate and then she wasn't. Paul Thomas presents a true story of the fragility of sexuality, and how one woman found herself...under the bright lights of blue cinema. Awaken. To The Awakening.
The movie synopsis given for this one does not describe it very well. It is really about a woman who wakes up semi-paralyzed from a car accident in which her friend dies. She deals with her remorse and gets interested in alternative medicine and spirituality after traditional medicine can't help her. After she recovers, the movie explores the tension between her and her nihilistic boyfriend, who is a low-brow porn director. That's an awful lot of plot... But I thought it was quite interesting and worth a rental.
At first I thought the plot was so ludicrous, because the acting is so bad and there is just so much going on. But it actually does contribute to the sexiness of the scenes. There is a great scene with Kobe Tai, where she and a friend get drugged up and go at it, anal and all. Another scene where she lets guys have her until she goes into a coma (storyline again). She's the greatest.
He said:Storyline kept distracting from interesting sexual possibilities. Kobi Tai can only have sex while high? Oh well. Better luck with another rental.
She said:This was not a couples' movie. Depressing story line distracted from any sex. Main female character very unlikable. Clergy sexual abuse! Ewwwwww. Toilet sex scene highly disturbing..not sexy.
The first few scenes feature a truly obnoxious male character forcing himself on every female in sight. In addition, the same few scenes seem to feature the same couple over and over again. If they were different people we could not tell the differnce.
It may have gotten interesting later on , but we did not have the patience to try it for any longer.
