The guy who put this package together is definitely NOT from the (all too overflowing) ME-TOO-School-of-Adult-Film-Directors
This is definitely different - very extemporaneous - pretty much off-the-wall kooky-zanyness.
The overall look is very PUNK - but the scenes are very much performed in earnest and 'definitely different'.
Looking forward to seeing more from the Vena Virago - he's got a new way to look at things - and does a great job in putting it all together in a package.
I have dock almost two stars off of this feature simply because of its blatant false advertising. Having recently lived in East Los Angeles, which is the titular Eastside here, I have been looking forward to this movie as a chance to see my neighborhood as filtered through porn's lens. Not so, even in the least. Aside from the opening credit there is nothing even remotely close to East L.A. conjured here and while the sex is pretty decent the sheer level of disappointment overshadows much of my enjoyment here.
The fucking is good and very couple friendly for a supposed "alt" title. Rather, there is very little "alt" to be had as the scenes never go anal (except for a few fingers) and there is even precious little spitting (which for me is a good thing)". What makes the sex work are the well cut interviews between the performers just before the scene which do not seemed forced in any respect. They seem natural and allow for a brief glimpse into the lives of the actors--even going so far as to recounting previous real-life sexual encounters amongst a few of them. Respecitvely, Lexi Bardot & Alex Gonz and Dana DeArmond & Tyler Knight really seem to enjoy fucking each other which adds to the enhancement. And count me as getting late to the Dana DeArmond party as I am now a full-fledged fan of her honest and quirky style.
Roxy DeVille & Dino Bravo's scene is decent but I still find it hard to get past Roxy's silly (read unatural) noisemaking. Rebecca Linares is pretty hot speaking Spanish to repeat performer Knight and she gets extra good when she gets warmed up and into the action.
It's too bad that Eastside Story doesn't deliver entirely on it's premise. The box claims that it's part porn and part installation piece and while the art was good the fact that I noticed it before I noticed the sex speaks to the films latent shortcomings.
